Writer: pacnacuer2020pacnacuer2020

The firehose of Executive Orders and many illegal actions on funding and firing within government, have our Coalition wondering on the impact for Indian Country.

This article (see quote below) spells out some of the issues. It is from Indianz.com from which this link shares the first hearing of the Indian and Insular Affairs Subcommittee with new leadership. Slide cursor to 24:46 and you will hear some of the impact from the EO's by the former Indigenous Chair of the committee.

Excerpt from full article: President Trump targets Indian education in first round of executive actions

"Trump’s actions and words on January 20, however, do not explain why the trust and treaty obligations of the federal government have been targeted by his anti-DEI efforts. Buried in the lengthy list of his “initial rescissions of harmful executive orders and actions” is a Biden-era executive order that merely promoted Indian education — from public schools to tribal colleges and universities."

ACTION YOU CAN TAKE:

Call your Senators and Representatives and tell them NOT to confuse DEI with tribal sovereignty.

"As confirmed by numerous laws and court decisions, the nation-to-nation relationship is based on the recognition of tribal governments as sovereign entities — it’s not rooted in race or racial status."
